To provide a service that will meet our vision: to take as our starting
point the 'social model of disability' which states that 'society' must
come to terms with how it reacts to people who have been labelled as disabled
rather than blaming disabled people for not being able or willing to fit
into society.
We will work to promote the idea that there is, in reality, only one 'society' and that includes all people regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or disability.
Working from this perspective we have provided citizen, crisis, peer, direct and self-advocacy support. People in Partnership have developed expertise in all of these areas and is currently the only project in Birmingham with experience of having worked with people from the various Black and Ethnic Minority communities in Birmingham.
P.I.P. has pioneered specialist support for mothers with a learning disability and specialist training for all learning disabled people. We will continue to be innovative and respond to the stated aims of learning disabled people by promoting choices rather than options.
